Dr. Conner, would you consider yourself a naturopath?

Read it…

Yea, probably to some extent.  For those who don’t know, a naturopath believes that diseases can be cured, treated, and prevented without medicinal drugs.  They feel that diet and exercise will take care of it.  They also use things like massage, meditation, manipulation like a chiropractor would do, maybe some medical devices, stuff like that.

I don’t feel completely like that.  There is a place for medicinal drugs.  They work, do their job, heal you, make you feel better, they work.  But, most people can lifestyle their way out of most medical conditions.  Diet and exercise play a huge role in this, far more than most people think.  Changing your diet to something like my 511 plan is significant.  And herbal products and vitamins and supplements, they are great.  I don’t think the true, hard core allopathic medical field gives this enough credit.  It’s funny, on one hand they say that herbs and vitamins, well you don’t need them, your just wasting your money, they don’t effect the body in any significant way.  Then it’s “don’t take ginko if you’re on blood thinners, you shouldn’t mix valerian or kava kava with xanax.”  Well, which is it, they don’t do anything, or they do do something because they are effecting other medications?

Prescription drugs work and so do over the counter medications.  I think there will always be a need for those.  But with more and more research and more study into alternative therapies, I think they will come into their own.  Herbs, like I said, have a predictable effect on the body.  So, I don’t feel that prescription drugs are the only way to go but they do have their place.  And herbs aren’t the only way to go either but they also have their place.
