I heard a recommendation about children taking stating drugs?
Read it…
It seems as though drug companies and doctors are saying that children should be given statin drugs if they show a propensity to getting high cholesterol, or they have high cholesterol, or are overweight, I stopped paying attention because I was so upset about it. First off, for the vast majority of people, high cholesterol, and being overweight for that matter, is caused by lifestyle. If you grab McDonalds on the way to work, sit in front of a computer all day, eat whatever everyone else in the office is ordering that day for lunch, come home, eat dinner and sit on your butt in front of the TV until bedtime, you’re going to be fat and you’re going to get high cholesterol. If you have these lifestyle habits, your kids are going to have these lifestyle habits. Now, I don’t mean to jump on anyone’s case here, but it’s your kids we’re talking about.
There is absolutely no reason whatsoever for an eight year old to be overweight or have high cholesterol unless there is something legitimately medically wrong, and that is very rare. You know, I’m sorry, but if you’re fat, you’re kids are probably fat as well. Yea, I’m the big meany for saying this but maybe it’s time someone did. The lifestyle you lead has brought you to this point, and your child also. Your kids watch you, see how you act, see what you do, and they want to be like you. If you sit on your butt, loosen your belt after dinner, that’s what they are going to do. Of course they are going to be overweight and may have high cholesterol, they don’t exercise. We are made to move, and move more than just reaching for the remote.
Look at your kids, and then look at you. They are most likely going to end up like you. If you’re out of shape, they are probably out of shape. If you exercise, eat right, take care of yourself, your kids are going to do the same thing, and their not going to have to take cholesterol drugs. It’s ridiculous. Until your kids get to be 18, you are responsible for them. I know you’re too busy to exercise, you’re too tired from working, you’re knees hurt, you have a bad back, it’s too hot, there’s too many mosquitoes, there’s no place to walk, whatever. Go to the mall, walk from one end to the other, and don’t stop at Orange Julius either.
You know here’s another thing, when kids start taking medication, it sets them up for a lifetime of failure. Yea, I said it. It sets them up because they learn that they have to rely on something to get them through their day. “I have to take my pill because I’m sick.” Don’t get me wrong, I know that some children have legitimate illnesses that are hereditary or they have something legitimately wrong, I’m not talking about those cases. I thank God every day that I have healthy children. I’m talking to those people who have healthy kids, happy kids, that are fully capable of getting outside and running, jumping, laughing, being kids for God’s sake.
Cholesterol and high blood pressure are lifestyle related diseases. They happen because of the way we treat our bodies, no they happen because of the way you treat your body. Eat better, exercise more, and that goes for the kids too, and there is no reason to be on blood pressure or cholesterol drugs.
